It’s been a while since we’ve released a home video, but winter finally gave us some free time to root through some footage from last summer.
We spent a week in June of 2013 backpacking through the deserts of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Before we left, we didn’t know what to expect or where we’d find ourselves. The days were hot, the nights were cold, our feet were tired and we’ve never looked so forward to canned soup. But by the end of the trip, our hearts were full and our longing for adventure had been satisfied… For now.
The bad news is sun, wind, sand and rocks really took a toll on the camera. The good news is no one fell in.

After playing hockey in the office all morning, we settled down enough to start working for the day. And it’s a good thing because we’re in full production of our most ambitious Mammoth Reel to date, highlighting all of the work we’ve done over the past year, as well as in post-production of a few shorts and pre-production of a few much much bigger projects. We’re also happy to introduce a few new members to the Mammoth team over the past few months. Welcome friends!
And even though not all of us here at Mammoth are hunters, we’re still proud of the work we do. Here’s the intro we created for the first season of our new show, Heartland Waterfowl, which just finished premiering on Outdoor Channel.

However you consider yourself spiritually oriented, Leonard Knight’s message of LOVE transcends into everyone.
After learning about Knight’s death, at age 82, yesterday, we decided to pay our quick tribute. Back in 2008, we were traveling through the deserts of California and decided to stop by ‘Slab City’ to meet the infamous Leonard Knight. We first learned about him and his creation, Salvation Mountain, from the movie, Into the Wild. Upon arrival, Leonard immediately greeted us with a huge smile, open arms and an eagerness to show us all around his colorful paradise. We spent an hour or so with him, as not to keep him too long, and left with open eyes and open hearts. For the entire hour, he talked only about Love and what it means to the world.
Leonard lived on location at his hand-made mountain, and has built giant dome-like rooms out of hay bails, logs, straps, paint, glue and whatever he could find laying around. It was almost hard to believe that such an old man living alone in the desert could build such a monument, but it was incredible. Now that he’s gone, we remember his stories about the government and various organizations trying to shut him down, and failing. Not knowing what will become of his masterpiece, we can only hope it will be left alone, as there are countless stories of how Leonard touched the lives of so many.
We left better people than when we arrived.

They say being busy is a good thing, and we agree, but sometimes it means ‘keeping up with’ our website and social media takes the back seat. So having been told several times that we’re terrible about publicly displaying what we’ve been up to, we’ve decided to make a conscious effort to make it more of a priority. That means from here on out, posting videos which have been finished since last summer, like this one, will be unacceptable…
We’ll see if it works.
Last summer, our friend Kyle Taylor of IMM in Boulder, CO called us up to collaborate on a series of commercials promoting the new ‘Happy Hour’ campaign for the American-Mexican restaurant chain, On The Border. A handful of thirty second spots were cut down from this longer, one minute edit. Yummy.

Last winter, we had the pleasure of spending an entire day inside an off-season haunted house, which also happens to be a real abandoned schoolhouse that’s allegedly haunted. We were shooting with our good friend and noted Horror Photographer, Joshua Hoffine on an ambitious photo of an entire horde of zombies attacking an all American family. He flew in J. Anthony Kosar (Winner of Season 4 of SciFi’s FACE/OFF) to physically turn 12 volunteers into hyper-realistic zombies, and brought in actor A. Michael Baldwin (from the movie Phantasm) to blow one of them away. We had a blast shooting the entire process, and one of us even got wrangled into becoming a zombie. It was terribly cold and the zombies were severely underdressed. It was also terrifying walking through the place by yourself.

And while we were at it, why not make a Harlem Shake video?

Many years ago, when a much less entertained and easily impressed general public paid to enter Arkansas’s Dinosaur World, we’re sure it was a fun way to spend an entire summer day with the family. But today, with new technology giving us an abundance of sensational media, and modern science completely changing the way we view these extinct creatures, the once beloved Dinosaur World now sits abandoned.
We stopped by for a private tour of this decaying paradise, well on it’s way to being forgotten by time.

Whether you’re missing summer as much as we are, or if you’re enjoying the cold, we hope you enjoy these three new photo galleries just posted to our website. The first two titled, “Still In Love with You, Missouri” pay tribute to the love of our home state.
The third is another sailing adventure, this time around New York City.
A few other new photos have been sprinkled throughout existing galleries as well. But don’t kill yourself trying to find them, it might not be worth it.
